What is dual enrollment?

Dual enrollment is an acceleration program that allows students in grades 6-12, including home education and private school students and students with disabilities, to take postsecondary coursework and simultaneously earn credit toward a high school diploma, a career certificate, an industry certification or an associate or baccalaureate degree at a Florida public or eligible private postsecondary institution.

Do students pay tuition for college or career credit dual enrollment courses?

A student who is enrolled in a dual enrollment or early admission program through a Florida College System institution or state university is exempt from the payment of tuition, registration, and laboratory fees pursuant to s. 1009.25, F.S.

How many high school credits are awarded for dual enrollment courses?

The Florida State Board of Education has published a dual enrollment course high school subject area equivalency list. This list specifies the dual enrollment courses that high schools accept toward meeting high school graduation requirements. Who is eligible to take dual enrollment courses?

Students must meet specific eligibility criteria, including earning a minimum grade point average and providing passing cut scores on an approved college readiness exam. Students must also not be scheduled to graduate from high school prior to the completion of the dual enrollment course.

Students must maintain at least a 3.0 unweighted high school GPA and the minimum required postsecondary GPA specified by the college or university for continued eligibility in the program.

May students with disabilities participate in dual enrollment?

Yes. In accordance with state and federal laws, colleges and universities who participate in dual enrollment, offer accommodations for students with disabilities to ensure equal access to programs and services.
